Overview

Happy Fellow 快樂肥宅 @ Mutiara Central Cheras is a charming spot that brings authentic Sarawak flavors to the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Nestled in an office block but easily accessible, it offers a clean, air-conditioned space perfect for a quick lunch or casual dinner.

The restaurant specializes in Sarawak staples: kolok mee, kampua mee, and Sarawak laksa. Their kolok mee features springy noodles topped with a savory blend of minced pork, cha siu, fried shallots, and spring onions. Unlike typical char siew found elsewhere, their version leans leaner and less fatty, balanced by the minced meat that adds depth and texture. The noodles come with a complimentary refill, a thoughtful touch for bigger appetites.

Sarawak laksa here stands out with its distinctive sour notes, setting it apart from other laksa varieties such as curry or Nyonya. It delivers a comforting complexity that lingers pleasantly on the palate. For those who enjoy a fiery kick, the Kolo Mee Chili Oil adds an exciting twist that complements the milder noodle dishes.

Happy Fellow also caters to those seeking heartier meals with their rice box offerings, including crispy chicken and belly bento options. These bentos appeal to office workers or anyone looking for a satisfying, straightforward meal without fuss.

Drinks deserve mention, particularly their Teh C, which regulars praise for its unique, well-balanced sweetness and robustness. Alongside classic kopi and soy milk, the beverage menu rounds out the experience nicely.

The atmosphere is simple and functional, with neat tables and a relaxed vibe. An unusual but nostalgic touch is the large projector screen showing classic Hong Kong movies, which fascinates some diners while giving the place character. The menu is accessed via QR code, embracing a modern ordering system that suits the busy crowd this outlet attracts.

Happy Fellow appeals to locals familiar with Sarawak cuisine and newcomers curious about it. It's especially popular among those craving authentic Sarawak noodles without the need to travel far. The attentive service and reasonable portions add to its appeal, making it an inviting spot in Cheras for a quick, flavorful meal.

Gave them a good rating because we tried their noodles and it didn't disappoint. Not too salty and l can safely say it's much better than the kuching shops that l tried. Their teh c was unusual and tasty. It's going to be my regular shop when craving Sarawak noodles! Place was aircond and comfortable. Need to scan their code to order from their menu.

I enjoy Sarawak kolo mee so naturally I went to visit this new Sarawak inspired kopitiam near my place in Cheras. The menu comprises mainly Sarawak famous dishes - Sarawak laksa, kolok mee, Kampua mee in a variety of sauces and also Sarawak dumplings. It also have set lunches and offers typical kopitiam breakfast such as half boiled eggs and kaya toast. I ordered the standard kolok mee and dumplings in shallot oil. As you can see the kolok mee portion is huge and for Rm12.90 is good value for money. It tasted very good and I like the springy noodles texture. The char siew is unlike your typical wantan mee stall so don’t expect too much of the char siew which is just dyed red color lean pork meat. But there was plentiful of minced pork meat and fried shallot which enhances the flavor of the kolo mee. As for the dumplings although it tasted good and filled with meat, I find it too oily as the dumplings are drenched in shallot oil. It may be best to have it shared with few others as I ordered it just for myself and the portion is huge, I think there are more than 10 dumplings. The ambience of the place is good and clean yet it’s kinda odd with a big projector screen showing old HK movies on the wall. I would certainly revisit for breakfast next time.

We’re not that familiar with Sarawak food - and ordered Kolo Mee and Sarawak Laksa to try. My Kolo Mee was not too bad - noodles were springy, would have liked a bit more cha side or minced meat, the soup was tasteless though. My sister’s Sarawak laksa was definitely more flavorful, it has more of a sour tinge unlike curry laksa or nyonya laksa. They offer one complimentary refill for noodles - so those with larger appetites can top up. Environment wise is simple, clean, not much deco. But service staff is attentive and quick. Nice place for a fast meal.

One of the better kolok Mee in Cheras. Usually have their fried chicken chop but this time tried their fried pork chop, no regrets, balance of fat and lean meat, juicy and not dry. Their coffee is good too just portion can be more. Can refill noodles once for free.

The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and clean. We tried the Mala Kolo Mee and the Black Sauce Kampua Mee. Both dishes were flavorful, but the black sauce was a bit too salty, it would be perfect if they could reduce the saltiness. Their iced coffee is quite good as well. I can only visit on weekends because the parking spaces are fully occupied during weekday lunch hours.
